EVENTs

So the past two weeks I took part in two really fun shows. The most recent of the two was a house party at Lake Johnson: the home/venue of hip-hop extraordinaire NYLE (watch his ingenious video, "Let the Beat Build"). I played some new songs and Josh debuted some great visuals. Beat-boxing aficionado Andrew Flockhart made a guest appearance as did Alejandro Ghersi. Lots and lots of fun. Lots.

The other event was an exhibition of sound art at NYU's Steinhardt Art Department. "Three Part Sound Art" was a new event curated by Eva Jäger and Olivia Murphy. I'm hoping it will develop into a series. The first event went a little something like this:

7:30 - Acoustic Repitions and the Human Beatbox

w/ Andrew Flockhart and Rioux

8:00 - Improvisations in Freeform, Minimal, and loop-based Musics
w/ John Swank and Rioux

9:00 - Rioux w/ visuals by Josh Cabrido

OK and here's a link to "Lost Hold". Geoff and I will be working on some new material shortly.

Yo Erin, it was too bad I missed you over break! Hope 2010 got off to a good start for you and I'm looking forward to some more updates!

:::about:::

Rioux is the name used by Erin Rioux (born 1990) for his psychedelic pop work. Using guitars, horns, kalimbas, and drums Rioux writes and records multilayered, rhythm-heavy music. He constructs his own virtual instruments from a library of self samples and uses looping as his chief compositional tool. Live in concert Rioux is an audiovisual collaboration with video artist and fellow NYU student Josh Cabrido. Picking up one instrument after another, Rioux builds his sonic environments in time with Cabrido's surreal projections for a psychedelic multimedia experience. In the coming months Rioux will begin releasing digital singles and perform alongside Memory Tapes at Chicago's Lincoln Hall.
